Locked Value Network

In modern attention-based society every interaction has a distinct value. Simply clicking a link or conducting a search on the internet has value to someone. Locked value networks are those that allow the flow of value into the network by users, but limit users from removing that value from the network.

Locked value networks usually entice users through enjoyable interactions such as video games, or in the form of special perks such as coupons or loyalty programs.

Many video game economies are locked value networks. They contain digital assets that have value within the network - skins, in-game items, and other such things - and are sold by the developers or by other players.

Whether the player spends time (value) grinding monsters to drop an item or uses their credit card (value) to purchase a skin, they are putting value into the network. In most cases, that value cannot be removed from the network. Most games don't allow you to sell your in-game items or currency for real-life currency. Similarly, loyalty points can often be used for discounts or special perks but rarely are they directly convertible to cash.

To be absolutely certain your value is locked into the network, developers, publishers, and reward program companies normally prohibit selling accounts in their terms of service.
